3SUN

3SUN is a solar cell and module factory of Enel Group. Established in 2010 in Catania, Italy, 3SUN is Europe’s largest high-performance photovoltaic cell and module Gigafactory, with a production of 3GW of photovoltaic modules per year, helping to meet European energy transition objectives and reduce fossil fuel reliance across the continent. Innovation and sustainability are the company’s two main pillars for becoming a catalyst for the revitalization of the photovoltaic industry in Europe.

3SUN’s photovoltaic modules are made with highly effective, competitive, and convenient CORE-H technology, produced using silicon ‘heterojunction’ technology (HJT). Furthermore, 3SUN is developing innovative ‘Tandem’ solar technology that will be applied to its photovoltaic products over the next few years. 3Sun is constantly engaged in research and innovation to produce next-generation photovoltaic modules that support the Enel group in providing clean, renewable energy and building a more sustainable, environmentally friendly future.

3SUN joins the SILEAN project to support the advances in the field of silicon PV and aid in boosting the industrialization of cutting-edge technologies enabling more sustainable and cost-competitive PV solutions. The main objectives of the project are in line with the technological roadmap of 3SUN, focusing on innovation and promoting sustainability. The SiLEAN project is also a great opportunity to build up new partnerships and reinforce the European PV value chain towards sustainable future new standards in renewable energy sector.

3SUN will assist partners in the definition of standard manufacturing processes and alternative device designs aimed at increasing the performance-to-cost ratio and reducing the environmental footprint of silicon PV products. Through its expertise in industrial-scale silicon heterojunction solar cells and modules production, 3Sun will evaluate the compatibility of processes and strategies to large-area manufacturing and mass production in the perspective of both utility-scale and distributed generation applications.
